You have looked online and seen all the pictures and ideas for trail obstacles. It looks like they are having so much fun!
You want your own trail course, but you don’t know…
The problem? There are some cool ideas online, however, many are too heavy to move, the wrong size, not strong enough, unsafe, flimsy or are just not “horse proof”.
Have you wasted time and energy wanting a trail course and researching what you should build? But you still don’t know where to start?
Trail Obstacles also:
Would you like to impress your friends (or clients), so they all want to come and ride?
Over the last 15 years, I have done the trial and error, the testing,
the building, the setup, the moving and the hauling of obstacles.
I’ve already tried different dimensions, kinds and styles.
I have worked with over 600 horses using trail obstacles and have put on over 100 Trail Rider Challenges.
Teaching foundation horsemanship applied to trail obstacles has been my life for the last 15 years. I have a large trail course at home, setup at various horse expos, facilitate lots of clinics, and Trail Rider Challenge events.
Even though I can setup over 75 obstacles at one time, I have a time-tested core set that I use over and over again. This set is efficient. It is useful for all the core areas that need practice: crossing, through, maneuvers, immobility, despooking and more advanced obstacles. All of the fundamentals of training with trail obstacles.
When I teach at clinics and present at expos, people often ask me how to build trail obstacles and/or take pictures of mine. Some ladies even send their husbands over with a tape measure.
Introducing...
A 74-page guide to walk you step-by-step and help you create an amazing horse trail obstacles and your own trail course!
It is the perfect guide for horse riders who want their own horse trail obstacles and course for fun, practice and training.

If you have been around a horse very long, you understand if a horse can break it, it will. This guide provides you with sound, time tested advice and ideas for trail obstacles.
Materials, a list of tools, and finish recommends so you know you need and can get started quickly.
Trail Obstacles fall in to a few categories /groups of items by the foundation skills used to complete the obstacle. I label these groups KINDS: Crossing Obstacles, Manuevers, Immobility, DeSpooking, and Advanced. This is how we talk about trail obstacles when we are using them with our horse.
When we are building trail obstacles they are divided into “Sections of Obstacles”. This refers to the parts/pieces/building materials we need to build obstacles. In the construction content, you will find the obstacles arranged in sections of similar components for building.
Each section of Obstacles gives you detailed obstacle ideas including how to build, illustrations and dimensions.
Sections include:
Learn the basics of setting up your trail course for a great practice and training experience. We will discuss lines of travel, bringing energy up and down, variety and levels of difficulty.
